Thank you for considering me for the growing team in the Environment and Energy Department! Please check out the following supplemental projects that pertain to the Communications Specialist role.
Complex Information Design
Example No. 01
Client: 3Degrees
Project: Renewable Energy Certificates Fact Sheet
I used fun graphic elements, such as icons and illustrations, to explain the topic of matching and retiring Renewable Energy Certificates for 3Degrees. I broke down the process into six easy-to-follow steps. The color palette, icons, and typography made the content more approachable for general audiences.
Example No. 02
Client: Kids in Tech
Project: Gratitude Report
I organized the text into sections with clear headlines and subheads. The organization works with kids so I used primary colors and simple shapes to create an eye-catching infographic. I used photography throughout the report to add visual interest. This project was selected as a winner at the 2021 AIGA Minnesota Design Show in the Design for Good category.
Example No. 03
Client: Beyond Backgrounds
Project: Impact Report
The client requested a simple two-page impact report. I created infographics using the statistics they provided. I added icons and other graphic elements throughout to add visual interest.
Example No. 04
Client: Girls in Gear
Project: Curriculum Booklets
The client requested three curriculum booklets. I pulled from their brand guidelines to create a unique color palette for each booklet. Within the booklets, I organized the text into sections and used graphic elements and photography to guide the reader from section to section.
Example No. 05
Client: Kansas Leadership Center
Project: K-12 Education in Kansas Infographic
I created a series of infographics to accompany an article discussing K-12 Education in Kansas. I enjoy finding creative or new ways to show data - for this assignment, I used a bar chart to show rural, suburban, urban, and small city statistics. Within each bar, I illustrated the corresponding area to add visual interest.
Example No. 06
Client: Energy Management Solutions
Project: Employee Handbook
I organized the text into sections with clear headlines and subheads and added visual interest with photography, pops of color, and text boxes.
Example No. 07
Client: ICM
Project: Company Overview Booklet
This project was for the parent company of ICM (the previously mentioned company). They asked for a similar design treatment, so I utilized the photography, pops of color, and text boxes again. They had a more established brand so I was able to use some of their graphic elements like their logo and hexagon shape
Designing for Diverse Audiences
As a digital content designer at Target I have been fortunate to learn about design accessibility. Target uses the four POUR principles (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust) to create a digital environment that is usable by people with diverse abilities.
This training has been very helpful and taught me practical ways to design with accessibility in mind. Examples of this include:
- Insuring all text meets a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio
- Adding text alternatives for images
- Adding captions for videos
Communication Plans and Messaging Strategies
As mentioned in my application, I regularly worked with two neighborhood business associations to manage their communication plans and messaging strategies for events and initiatives. This digital and print content was created to promote the Brookside Sidewalk Sale. I created the flyer design and pulled graphic elements and typography from it to promote the event on social media. This includes banner, newsfeed and profile images for Facebook.
Tools I Use
Adobe Creative Suite: I have used Adobe Creative Suite daily as a student and professional for the past 14 years, and I am always learning more tricks of the trade! Below is some of my favorite work created using Adobe Creative Suite.
Email Newsletter Tools: I have used Constant Contact and Mailchimp to create e-newsletters for clients.
Microsoft Office Suite: I use Excel and Outlook daily. Sometimes clients only have access to Microsoft Office Suite, so I have designed extensively in PowerPoint and Word. I have created templates that clients can use to easily edit information without impacting the original design
Web content management platforms: I have managed web content using Squarespace, Wix, and WordPress. Additionally, I have used Target’s proprietary web content management platform for the past 6 years of employment.
Thank you for checking out my work. I hope to work with your team to make the world a better place!
